Just in time for spring decorating, Pantone’s “Color of the Year” for 2014 is Radiant Orchid; a color described by pantone.com to be “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.” As a nod to this vibrant color, we have put together a list of our best rugs which incorporate orchid, purple or pink, along with tips on how to use these colors in your décor.
This lovely 1.5” shag rug in the Radiant Orchid color is from Loloi’s Hera Shag collection. This is such a radiant color and texture that it is a centerpiece all its own. It’s easy to envision this bright rug as the focal point in a beautiful neutral room. Pick up the color around the room in simple accessories like a vase or candle.
For a rug that’s a bit more subtle, this Surya rug from the Organic Modern collection in khaki and orchid is an easy way to incorporate the lovely orchid color while remaining a bit more neutral. This enables you to play with color a bit more elsewhere in the room, as the orchid is a less prominent color in the rug. Since this has a pretty and contemporary floral motif, try accenting your room by placing some fresh or silk flowers in the orchid shade on an end table or mantle!
A raspberry pink paired with a wenge brown on this reversible Surya Frontier wool area rug adds a sophisticated touch to any room. These cool colors team up well to provide a nice contemporary feel. The combination pops in a neutral room, like the kitchen shown here, or use the rug as an accent in a room painted or accessorized with lighter shades of purple or pink.
In NuLoom’s popular Pierre Overdyed collection, the purple stands out as an elegant showpiece. Made from 100% silk, it’s a hand-knotted rug with a vintage look all its own. This effect is caused by the overdying process. This rug is perfect in a light-colored room to add instant style, or as one key element of a more brightly-colored room. Purple can be used to add an element of elegance to a space, and in fact was the color of royalty in days past. It can also be used to add a bit of playfulness to a room and is often found in family rooms. This rug contrasts nicely with warm colors like red, orange and yellow—continue the elegance with lampshades, picture frames, artwork, or throw pillows in warm shades and/or crystal accents to complement this beautiful rug.
Traditional rugs usually come in a pre-determined range of colors, but this NuLoom Décor Wool Rug, which is hand-knotted with 100% wool, employs a beautiful lavender shade not usually seen in traditional rugs. It also opens up the alluring possibility of decorating with an additional Oriental rug in a room decorated in shades of purple, or also be a unique conversation piece in any room. Leaving this rug uncovered, without a table or ottoman on top, means a higher probability of the rug’s uniqueness being noticed and admired. This rug also comes in pink as well. Floral On Purple
Add a touch of the feminine to any room with this cheerful floral rug from the Contour collection by Nourison. The intriguing hand-tufted looped structure has vibrant shades of pink and orange for contrast, on a deep purple background. It’s hard to think of a room color that this rug wouldn’t match. From a living room, dining room, or even a kid’s bedroom, it’s sure to add a cheery visual… Or try it on a covered porch or deck for a spring-like feel.
As a bonus during April 2014, PlushRugs.com is offering free rug pads with Nourison rugs, as well as up to a $50 gift card!
The interesting cut-out design of this lively fuchsia Clarity rug from NuLoom’s Modella collection will make it an instant conversation piece! It’s hand tufted in India with 100% wool for maximum softness, too. With it’s intriguing, cut-out border, it would look great on either light or dark hardwood floors, add a nice touch on top of installed carpeting, or place it atop a neutral, natural-fiber rug for a sophisticated layered look (or on top of an animal-print rug for a more dramatic room statement.)
Pretty Pink Damask
This vintage-looking rug, hand knotted in India from 100% wool, is made using techniques employed by rug makers for hundreds of years, but is in an updated pink-and-gray color scheme. Gray is a very sophisticated color and matches almost any color scheme. The pink damask design manages to be both elegant and fun at the very same time, which opens up your décor possibilities greatly! Pink goes so well with every color of the rainbow. Whether jewel tones to pastels to monochromatic schemes, this rug should fit right in.
