If you haven’t seen Netflix’s Stranger Things, you’ve been seriously missing out. The nostalgic, 80’s-inspired show has become an instant hit and the perfect inspiration for your Halloween decor. With season 2 set to premiere on October 27th, throw a viewing party with these decorating ideas!
The iconic painted alphabet played a major part in season one. If you don’t want to fully commit to painting it on your walls, paint the alphabet on a bulletin board and hang flickering and mismatched Christmas lights above it to communicate with those in the Upside Down. Here’s an awesome DIY by Drawn to DIY.
Make your guests feel like they’ve stepped into Hawkins in the 80’s with the official Stranger Things soundtrack or make your own with your favorite 80’s hits. Don’t forget The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” on your playlist. You can purchase or listen on Amazon or listen on Spotify!
The Upside Down is cold and dark. Reproduce dead matter by covering your home in fake cobwebs and paper-mache. Choose one part of your home to place the dead matter and create a portal on one of your walls. Make a hole without any permanent damage with decals or construction paper. Make it messy to appear authentic. You’ll have no trouble finding spooky decorations at any local Halloween or grocery store!
Stock the fridge with Eggos and chocolate pudding and pick up the perfect game for the party–Stranger Things Eggo Card Game! Taken from the website – “Play as Will, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Eleven, Hopper or Barb. Each card played can send a player’s character to the Upside Down, summon the Demogoron, or cause a rift that sends everyone who was Right Side Up to the Upside Down, and vice versa. Players must escape and get rid of all their Eggo cards before the Demogorgon attacks. Succeed, or be toast!” Adding to our cart now…
Tie everything together with lots of 80’s-inspired decor accents. Channel Joyce’s living room by covering your couch in a knitted blanket and go thrift shopping for knickknacks. Don’t go too over the top and tacky–the beauty of this series is how authentically it represents this era. Check back next week, after you binge-watch the second season, for a full “Get the Look” to bring that Strange 80’s style into your home!
