While some celebrities still favor the vintage kidney-shaped swimming pools popular in the 20th Century, more stars map out their own striking, modern styles.
Many celebrities have an infinity or vanishing edge pools which seem to extend into the horizon – or the ocean if the pool is near the beachfront. Water flows over the edge to give the impression that the pool goes on forever. These pools are built with no inset rim, and water pours over the ledge like a tiny waterfall. The filtration system then pumps the water back into the pool.

Rihanna’s pool combines subtle charm and a fantastic view of the surrounding Hollywood Hills. The elevated mini-pool offers a place to chill at night, with couches on the marble patio nearby to talk with friends. The marble steps surrounding the pool give it a bit of traditional Hollywood glamour.
The pool outside Adele’s Beverly Hills home is relatively small by celebrity standards, but it has a cozy, party atmosphere that works equally well for afternoon sunbathing as it does for soirées. There’s an elevated small pool/Jacuzzi next to the swimming pool, and a few lounge chairs dot the patio. The gazebo off to the side is perfect for dinner (or getting shade on a hot summer day.) A string of lights suspended above the hedges and through the trees add a festive charm to the pool area.
Celine Dion’s Jupiter Florida swimming pool resembles a world-class water park more than a mere pool. This aquatic wonder has twirling slides, gazebos on stilts and a large pool with its own river running around the yard. A bridge over the waterway provides a full view of the surrounding grounds. Another bridge leads to two shaded tables for dining or relaxing.
There’s also a second, more conservative, square-shaped pool in back of the main residence for times Celine and her guests want to chill out.
Sylvester Stallone’s Miami, FL home has a classic style pool bordered by white marble – and- naturally, a bronze statue of Rocky Balboa overlooking the grotto. Grecian urns sit on pedestals to either side of the Rocky statue, while a tree and a few shrubs dot the marble courtyard.
The pool gracing Jennifer Lopez’s Hamptons vacation home keeps things simple. It’s long, rectangular and surrounded by a smooth stone patio. In marked contrast to Celine’s whimsical water park, the only decorations are two stately potted plants at the front of the pool.
The Hollywood Hills home formerly owned by Ashton Kutcher of “That ‘70s Show” fame has an infinity pool with a breathtaking view of the mountains. A sofa, dining table and chairs and a few lounge chairs overlook the pool area. Two fire pits and a palm tree line the patio to one side of the pool.
The former Friends star’s L.A. home has a gorgeous but understated swimming pool. Japanese landscaping outlines the pool’s orange brick patio. Like many other celebrity pools, there’s a hot tub built into the pool. Patio umbrellas provide shade for the lounge chairs on the deck, and there’s a covered dining area with tables and chairs. There’s even a seating area in front of one of the corner hedges.
The pool outside Courteney Cox’s oceanside Malibu home seems to blend in with the Pacific Ocean. Outlined by a stone patio, the swimming pool looks like an infinity pool. A closer glance reveals the rim and grass edging separating the pool area from the ocean.
Teak stools and designer chairs add elegance to the patio. A hot tub juts out from the far end of patio the patio into the ocean.
Rap and Pop Superstars
Rapper, actor, and entrepreneur Dr. Dre recently bought a custom château in Brentwood, from New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady and model Gisele Bündchen. The sprawling castle-like estate features a huge pool with a small marble deck that extends from the patio. The deck has his and her lounge chairs, with a few decorative pots for added ambiance.
The Maroon 5 singer’s pool overlooks the Southern California mountains, with a mosaic stone patio surrounding it. The “squarish octagon” shaped pool is fairly simple, with a few reclining chairs nearby.
Rap star Drake’s pool on his Hidden Hills, Ca. estate resembles a tropical paradise, complete with a lush waterfall. A wooden bridge leads to a circular stone outcropping with a sandpit on top. The azure waters of the “pool” are flanked by stone formations on each side, and a man-made waterfall pours over stone caves at the back of the water wonderland.
Will and Jada Smith
The pool on Will and Jada Smith’s Malibu estate is actually more river than pool, with a shape that mimics natural waterways. It’s flanked by a whitish-grey stone patio, with rock outcroppings to complement the natural look of the water. Recliners, potted plants and a few shrubs accentuate the patio.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi go for a minimalist look for the swimming pool on their Beverly Hills property. Brazilian granite borders the moderately-sized rectangular pool and recliners dot the lawn to one side of the pool. Hedges add greenery to the front of the pool, and a smooth, low-slung wall cordons the pool off from the landscape below but allows friends and family a good view of the surrounding mountains.
Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber
Supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber’s new Beverly Hills home has a distinct Mid-Century Modern feel. Airy rooms with sliding doors look out onto the step-in swimming pool, and guests can relax on recliners underneath a huge tree in the courtyard.
