Floral rugs are a great way to add style and design to your home. There are plenty to pick from so it might be hard to find a place to start, and once you make a decision it may not go with the design of the room.

When shopping for a floral rug, find a color you want to see more of, and make sure to get the right size. Pick the right material, and of course, keep the price in mind. If you already have a floral design in your space, you can repeat or enlarge it with a floral rug. Get some great ideas on what to look for in a modern floral rug below.

When choosing a floral rug, look for the color you want to add to the room. Do you love blues? Add a rug with huge, vibrant blue flowers. Bright colors like yellow or orange will really draw the eye, but be wary about adding too many colors, since they might become overwhelming.

If most of the room is in earthy tones, you can brighten it up with a colorful floral rug.  If you haven’t planned the entire room yet, go with neutrals for most of the large-sized furniture because color can come mainly from the rug and decor placed in the room.

Do you want to add a floral rug with several huge flowers or a bunch of tiny flowers and floral elements? Either style can work and it’s largely up to personal preference, but there are a few rules. If you pick a pattern with a lot of lines, make sure those lines work with the straight lines already in the room. Also, make sure the pattern doesn’t clash with your established decor. An intricate traditional floral rug wouldn’t work in a contemporary minimalist room.

For a modern design, make sure to use straight, clean lines and simple patterns in your rug. The floral patterns can even be abstract rather than overt in a modern floral rug. As long as the rug’s pattern has a natural feel, it will work as a floral rug.

Material

Plan where you want to place a rug before picking out the material. If you want the rug in a high traffic area, such as a hallway, kitchen, or living room, get a rug in a durable material like wool, polypropylene, nylon, or sisal. Durably made rugs may cost more but will last much longer for you and your family.

Colorfastness is also a major factor when shopping for a floral rug. If you go through the trouble of selecting the perfect color and design, you want it to last as long as possible. To this end, go for materials that will hold its color for a long time, like nylon, acrylic, polypropylene, or wool.

Size

Pick the right sized rug for the room you want to place your rug in. Getting a rug that is too small or too large can affect the room, throwing off the design and flow. When in doubt, go large. A larger rug will make a small room seem bigger, and bring a larger room together. Pick a large rug filled with large, beautiful flowers to add to the expansiveness of the rug and room.

A large rug gives you the chance to showcase the intricate pattern of your new floral rug. If you’ve chosen a design with large flowers, a large rug is the only way to really show off your style.

You want to purchase a rug that fits your budget and your style. If you are having trouble finding a rug in your price range, you may need to opt for a cheaper material or lower cost construction method. While a handwoven wool rug would be better in almost any room, machine-made rugs woven with synthetic materials can be a much more budget-friendly option that will get the job done.

If you have your heart set on a more expensive rug, it’s not a bad idea to wait for periodic sales or sign up for sale alerts. PlushRugs.com even offers a 10% discount for new customers who sign up for email alerts.
